Public committee against Torture in Israel
We at the PCATI believe that torture and ill-treatment of all types and in all situations are incompatible with moral values, with democracy and with the rule of law. PCATI was established in 1990 in response to years-long governmental policy which permitted the systematic use of torture and ill-treatment during interrogations by the ISA. Our vision at PCATI is to eradicate the culture of torture and to end the absolute impunity granted to torturers in Israel.
In pursuit of these goals PCATI operates primarily in two spheres: the legal, by filing petitions in the name of torture victims and training legal, medical and mental health professionals to work with torture victims; and the public, through education projects, conferences, continuing education sessions, documentation, and the release of publications.
